Join Heather and I, on a Baja California Sur, Pacific Ocean Kayaking Trip.
We did a similar kayaking trip in the Sea of Cortez in 2024 with 6 WCA members. Check out various WCA Youtube videos about it. Also check out the article Heather wrote in the 2024 Summer Nastawgan issue. It was a great trip!
We will have Ramon, as our Mexican guide/outfitter/shuttle services/food provider&cook for this trip. He's an excellant guide, with his vast local knowledge about all aspects of our trip . You will be in good hands.
The kayaking trip will cover 10-15 km a day in mostly shelter waters of the Pacific Ocean It will be a pretty casual pace. Lots of time to relax, swim, snorkeling, fish, hike, bird watch, explore the desert and surrounding lands, meet the locals, etc.
The rought costs are;
Deposite will be due after first Zoom meetings in Early Nov 2024 to lock in your spot..
Final payment will be due ~ January 2025.
To be considered for this trip sign up and contact Gary. I would need to know your kayaking & camping experience, motivation to come, expectations, etc.......
Safety - There were no issues on the 2024 trip. Loreto is a low key tourist town.
Reliablity - Our guide Ramon is solid and trustworth.
Zoom kick off meeting will be arranged late Oct 2024 to kick things off and nail down trip dates, flights, AirBNB's etc.
A google docs will be set up for planning our trip.
If you have questions give me a call.
We plan to kayak out to the McCoy Island area. Depending on conditions we can explore around the area south to Franklin Island, Mink Island or north to Pointe au Baril area.
During this outing we are planning to honour the last wishes of Mike Naughton to have some of his ashes spread over the McCoy island.
Born in England in 1918, Mike was the Founding President of the Five Winds Backcountry Ski Club. He began establishing ski trails in the Gibson River area in 1973. Mike captured the history of his beloved Gibson River area and the Club's presence there in "Gibson River Past and Present: A Five Winds Chronicle". He also wrote his memoirs, "Michael Naughton, My Life" . Both of these can be found on the Five Winds club’s website. Michael Naughton died in London on June 3rd 2015.
Original members of Five Winds Backcountry Ski Club remember him for his vision and years of dedication to the club. Old and new members remember him for the joy he has given us as we ski on his trails every Sunday during the winter. Mike's wishes were to have his ashes scattered on his beloved Gibson Trails.
We will be kayaking in Georgian Bay in the area of the Minks and McCoy Islands (Northwest of Parry Sound)
I plan to travel up to the area on Friday evening and stay in Killbear campground. The event official starts on Saturday morning (9AM) at Dillon marina.
Sea kayaking and camping; 8 full days on the water plus 2 half days.
We'll put in at the portage around Hydro Dam. Depending on the weather, we'll circumnavigate the whole Lake. Lunch stop at the north shore. Rain or shine. Maximum 6 boats.
